SOB's is a NYC classic and it stays updated by consistently offering terrific and well-played music to guests. This tropical themed loft-like opened space provides an atmosphere that is inviting to those who like to dance, listen to fabulous live music, or people watch. Native NYers (me) and Visitors alike co-mingle to the happy and sometimes naughty sounds that vibrate off of the stage. Go to SOB's on a night when you want to dance your buns off, or need to forget a bad day at work, or want to impress a date with your dancing savvy, or simply because it's a good place and you CAN. It's lively and attractive; try it on a Sunday night for the amazingly inexpensive entrance fee of $5, get a feel for the place, and I bet you'll get hooked. Try to wear good dancing shoes - nobody seems to be sitting for very long, and the tasty and generous drinks help get those knees up and hips swaying.

SOBs, Sounds of Brazil, is a small but wonderful club where one can listen, dance, eat, celebrate, socialize. The club features great musicians and bands from the international scene, with lots of Afro-Brazil influence. The dance floor is energizing, however crowded. (This is a good sign.) Also, SOBs has a certain headiness to it, that is, a thoughtfulness about the music aesthetic, and this gives SOBs non-pretentiuos venue a healthy dose of class. The food is exquisite and worth the upper end cost.

EVERY single time I have been to SOB's I have had a phenomenal time. This is definitely one of my most favorite spots in the city.

Friday's and Saturday's have been the best with the live drumming.

I even went to a listening party for a new group and once again, had a great time.

The food is ok, but it's not their forte. If you can get service, it's ok too. But you're not there to eat or even drink.......It's to shake your Bon Bon all night long.

I was invited by a friend to this place. I had heard about if for years but this was the first time I went. The place was off the hook! They were playing all my favorite old school joints. The drink I got wasn't watered down, delicious! I didn't get a chance to eat the food since I was there for a mini concert but I did see the food and it looks like they don't play with portions.

I was at SOB's just last night as an invited guest. I was there to do a freelance job for Art of Rhyme which involved doing a video spotlight on one of the artist they had performing that night. We made all our arrangements with the club's publicist, Derick, who appeared to be very accomidating. He put our party of three on the "guest list" and told us to be there at 8:00pm.

When we get there, the doorman tells us that Derick hasn't been seen, and if we were on his guest list we would have to wait in line. We get to the front of the line after about a 45-minute wait only to be informed that we weren't on the guest list. Derick was nowhere to be found, and was told to wait outside while they clear up the matter. We waited an additional hour, and decided to leave when we saw that the club had no intention on letting us in.

At this point I had the expense of a 4-hour trip, a 2-hour wait, and a video crew that needed to be paid. Mind you... we were "INVITED GUEST." I can't imagine how they stay in business after reading all their bad reviews on different websites, or why would any musical guest perform in such a place. In fairness, you can find good reviews about SOB's, but it only means that you have a 50/50 chance of making a big mistake.

It was Terrible! And the way they treated some of the patrons was even worst. New York is famous for it's wonderful nightlife, but you won't find it at SOB's. Do the research, and find a better place to spend your money.
