I continue to be impressed with the teachers and administrators at this school. I think their approach (learning through play) is right on. My child is very happy there and I feel supported as a parent in every way. I strongly recommend Downtown Little School. It's well worth a subway commute.

The Downtown Little School is a rare place,a playbased environment. Chilldren are respected and can learn and grow in an exceptionally supportive oasis in lower manhattan. I am afraid to let the secret out, but it is worth everyone knowing about.

Downtown Little School is a great school where your child will be respected and you will get the kind of support you need in the often difficult process of raising small children. it is an inclusive setting and welcomes all families, first come first serve without the elitist admissions process which has become the norm in this crazy town even for babies. the administration and teachers are all first-rate, and the atmosphere is welcoming and stimulating. my youngest child has been at dls since she was two and my older child attended for one year. the approach is cohesive throughout the classrooms--my kids still sing the same songs. the art is open-ended, and childrens' social and emotional growth is the sole focus. they potty-trained my daughter and continue to help me be a better parent through individual conferences and free workshops on parenting. i can't say enough about the school. our family was welcomed from the first day and offered unconditional support. if i sound like a convert, i am, unashamedly. we commute every day to get to dls from brooklyn heights, because the school is just so first-rate.
